New Delhi: A Delhi Court on Saturday ordered the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to provide residence to the Unnao rape victim. The court also directed DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal to oversee the rehabilitation measures of the victim.

After the courtā€™s order, the DCW chief said, ā€œWe are thankful to the Honā€™ble Court for directions for accommodation and rehabilitation of the victim. We will assign our team on Sunday to arrange accommodations for the Unnao victim and her family. The commission will also start working for rehabilitation as per her interests. She is a brave fighter, and the commission will try our best in helping her.ā€

During the in-camera proceedings, District Judge Dharmesh Sharma gave this direction after the survivorā€™s counsel informed the court that landlords were not willing to give their premises to them for short duration because of the background of the case, a lawyer said.

The Unnao rape victim was allegedly raped by suspended BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
