DME ask Niloufer Hospital authorities to submit details regarding allegations against clinical trials

Hyderabad: The Director of Medical Education (DME) instructed the Superintendent of Niloufer Hospital to send details of the clinical trials, currently conducted in Nilofuer Hospital in Hyderabad.

DME Dr Ramesh Reddy also asked to furnish all details of the Principal Investigator along with full details of each trial protocol. The requested that information should be submitted by Friday afternoon without fail the DME instructed. Ramesh sought all answers from hospital authorities after several allegations of conducting clinical trials on poor patients against some doctors in Nilofuer Hospital emerged.

Denying the allegations, Dr Ravi Kumar, Head of Paediatrics at Nilofuer Hospital, said, “These allegations are baseless as I conduct trials with permission. They are conducted across the country, and few centres are established to conduct these trials, one of them being ours. For every one of these trials, an ethical committee is constituted, and ours is in Osmania Medical College. Such trials are necessary for any new drug or vaccine entering our markets. I am conducting the trials with the approval of the ethical committee, and I have all relevant documents to prove it.”
