Andhra’s daughter Dangeti Jahnavi makes India proud; set to travel to space in 2029

West Godavari: A West Godavari girl has made India proud after she was chosen to travel to space in 2029.

Dangeti Jahnavi from Palakollu is the first Indian to complete NASA's International Air and Space Program.

As an astronaut candidate with Titans Space, Jahnavi will undergo a comprehensive three-year training program in the United States, meticulously preparing her for the 2029 orbital flight. This mission, which will see her spend five hours in space, will be led by seasoned American astronaut Bill MacArthur.

Over the next three years, starting from 2026, she will undergo intensive astronaut training through Titan Space’s ASCAN programme, which includes flight simulation, spacecraft procedures, survival training, and medical and psychological evaluations.

“As a kid who believed that the Moon followed me, I didn’t know it was leading me here. Today, that childhood wonder becomes a part of my reality,” Jahnavi wrote on Instagram.

Jahnavi's inclusion in their pioneering space launch team underscores her vital role in shaping the future of private space exploration and India's growing footprint in the cosmos.

She graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering at Lovely Professional University in Punjab, after finishing her Intermediate education in her hometown of Palakollu. Her parents, Srinivas and Padmasri, currently reside in Kuwait for work.

Jahnavi is a STEM advocate and asteroid discoverer. She has delivered talks for ISRO’s educational programs and addressed students at premier institutions, including National Institutes of Technology (NITs) across the country. In 2022, Ms. Jahnavi became the youngest Analog Astronaut from the Analog Astronaut Training Centre (AATC) at Kraków in southern Poland.
