Hyderabad: Desserts made with fruit are delicious. They can have both flavour and health benefits. While fruits like mango, apple, and banana are frequently used in desserts, let’s look at some ice apple recipes.

Ice apple is a natural cooler that helps in regulating body temperature. It is a cooling fruit from the sugar palm tree. It is a summer fruit that grows in India’s coastal regions. The fruit resembles an aubergine in its size and hue.

It is translucent, meaty, and encased in what looks like a coconut when sliced open to retrieve the seed. It also looks like ice, hence the name. Summer is the best season for ice apples.

Eating fruit every day might get boring, so here are a few recipes you can try that will make the fruit refreshing, healthy, and tasty.

Nungu Payasam

Ingredients:

Nungu/ice apples

2 cups boiled milk

¼ cup sugar

12 blanched almonds

2 cardamoms

A few strands of saffron (optional)

Preparation method:

1. Peel the skin of the ice apples. Cut them into small desired shapes and keep them aside.

2. Now, take blanched almonds and cardamom and blend them in a mixer into a smooth paste.

3. Add the smooth paste to the milk and cook it over a low flame until it thickens.

4. Add sugar and mix well, and keep stirring on a low flame for about 3-4 mins.

5. Remove from heat and allow it to cool completely.

6. Add the chopped iced apples and mix well.

7. Refrigerate it until ready to serve.

8. Serve chill with saffron strands added on top.

Ice apple rose milk

Ingredients:

Ice apple: 1

Basil seeds: 2-3 tbsp

Rose syrup: 1 tbsp

Milk: 200ml

Sugar: 1 tbsp

Preparation method:

1. Take basil seeds and soak them in milk and refrigerate it until the seeds swell up.

2. Peel the skin of the ice apple and cut it into small chunks and keep it aside.

3. Once the basil seeds milk is ready, add the rose syrup and sugar, mix well

4. Add chunks of ice apples and rest them for good 30 minutes.

5. Serve chill.
