Security, finance, medical:... In a first, women railway officers to manage five key departments in SCR

Hyderabad: For the first time in its history, South Central Railway (SCR) has entrusted leadership of five crucial departments to women officers.

The departments, including operations, security, finance, commercial, and medical, are considered vital for smooth railway functioning, passenger safety, and employee welfare.

Women at the helm

K. Padmaja has taken charge as Principal Chief Operations Manager, overseeing day-to-day train operations. Aroma Singh Thakur is leading the Security Department as Inspector General-cum-Principal Chief Security Commissioner.

Finance and commercial leadership

The finance wing is now headed by Principal Financial Advisor T. Hema Sunitha, while Ity Pandey is managing the commercial department as Principal Chief Commercial Manager.

Medical services under women’s guidance

Nirmala Narasimhan has assumed charge as Principal Chief Medical Director, ensuring medical care and welfare services for employees across the zone.

Milestone in Railway history

This is the first time that all these pivotal departments are simultaneously under the stewardship of women officers in SCR. Officials said this achievement reflects a broader effort to ensure diversity and inclusion in leadership roles.

SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava said the zone has been actively promoting women's empowerment by encouraging their participation in decision-making roles and taking initiatives to strengthen gender equality within the organization.
