Visakhapatnam: The Vizag police on Tuesday arrested four men, including a doctor, for allegedly harassing their respective wives. While two face charges for troubling their spouses after getting drunk, the other two tortured their life partners over dowry and an illicit relationship. All four have been sent to judicial remand.
In the first case, Chandrasekhar (43) married (Dhanalakshmi) a couple of years ago and was leading a happy life in Santinagar area. He had an affair prior to marriage and revived the relationship recently and began harassing his wife. Unable to bear the torture, she lodged a complaint following which the police did an inquiry and arrested Chandrasekhar.
In Ambedkar Colony, Tejeswani (22) complained against her husband Manideep (33) for harassing her for dowry. They got married six months ago.
A doctor by profession, Urmila (26), complained that her husband Santosh (30), also a doctor, got addicted to alcohol and began harassing her violently and emotionally.
In a similar case, the police arrested Yerra Sankar Rao (43) for harassing his wife Yerra Uma (30) under the influence of alcohol.
The police counselled the tippler husbands before sending them to remand.
City police chief RK Meena said that they will register cases against men if their wives approach the police over harassment. The police chief also said that they will be launching a virtual police station (VPS) at Andhra University in Vizag city so that women can complain through the VPS without visiting police stations.
