Dubbaka by-polls: 2 media outlets booked for reports on vote-buying

Hyderabad: Two news organisations, the news channel V6 and the daily Velugu, were booked by the Siddipet police on 30 October for broadcasting and publishing news relating to the upcoming Dubbaka Assembly by-polls.

A case was registered against the two media outlets under various sections of the IPC and the Disaster Management Act. The police were acting on a complaint from the returning officials who stated that the news channel had telecast a news item on Wednesday claiming that each person was being paid Rs. 500 to participate in TRS rallies during the by-election for the Dubbaka Assembly constituency. The same was published in the newspaper also.

Further, these media organisations claimed that the ZPTC of Munipally was luring the voters with money and asking them to vote for TRS. They published photographs and videos.

In this regard, the returning officials requested the police to inquire into the matter and take necessary actions.

The Dubbaka Assembly by-poll is scheduled for 3 November. The by-poll was necessitated after the incumbent S. Ramalingareddy passed away due to ill health.
