Kalyani works as an auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) at the Kadiyapulanka area in East Godavari district. She lives in a rented house in Rajahmundry. Kalyaniās husband tested positive for COVID-19 and he was recommended home quarantine. However, he was admitted to the Bommuru quarantine centre in the district.
Though Kalyani has tested negative for the virus, her landlord, Y. Rajeev, refused to allow her to enter the rented house for fear she will spread the virus. The woman then went to her own home at Alcot Gardens. But the residents there locked her house and prevented her from entering.
Kalyani, along with her relative, spent the whole night outside the house. She was forced to sit in front of her residence in the rain from Wednesday night to Thursday morning. Though she dialed 100 (police), no one came to her help.
A video of Kalyani urging people to show their humanity has become viral on social media. Responding to media reports, the superintendent of police of East Godavari, Adman Sami, sent a team to the spot and Kalyani could finally enter her house. The SP said they will initiate action against the locals and the police who didnāt respond to her pleas.
