Hyderabad: As many as 526 students from the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS) have qualified for JEE Advanced 2025.

This milestone marked the highest number of qualifiers in the institution’s history and is being hailed as a golden chapter for the Gurukula system. This year, for the first time in the institution’s history, a significant number of students achieved over 90 and 80 percentile scores in the national-level engineering entrance test.

The students, many of whom hail from an underprivileged background—children of daily wage labourers, sanitation workers and marginalised Dalit families—have demonstrated that with the right support, determination and opportunity, poverty is no barrier to academic excellence. Their performance in the JEE Mains 2025, conducted in two phases in January and April, has positioned them on par with their peers from elite private coaching institutions.

Special training programmes

Dr VS Alagu Varsini, IAS, secretary of TGSWREIS, said the achievement is a result of ‘bold and strategic reforms initiated under the leadership of chief minister A Revanth Reddy.’

She stated that special coaching programmes were introduced to ensure Gurukula students receive JEE training on par with top-tier private coaching centres.

Prominent performers include R Mani Deep of Gowlidoddi Boys College, who scored 99.03 percentile, K Charan Tej with 98.30 and Ram Charan Teja with 98.08. From the girls’ colleges, B Tejaswini secured 98.27 percentile and K Keerthana scored 96.71. T Ephrayam of Sheikpet Gurukula achieved 97.87 percentile, while K Keerthana of GV Gudem, Nalgonda, also stood out with 96.71. Their success is a testament to their hard work and the unwavering academic support provided by the institution.

From formative assessments to special online revision sessions

The secretary further highlighted that the result was made possible through several key measures implemented at the Centre of Excellence (COE), including the appointment of experienced principals, committed faculty, strict implementation of a micro-schedule, continuous formative assessments, regular mock exams, targeted academic counselling and special online revision sessions. The institution also focused on easing psychological stress through student wellness programmes, enabling learners to stay focused on their academic goals.

Congratulating the students, their parents and the dedicated teaching staff, CM Revanth Reddy, deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, principal secretary of SCDD N Sridhar, and secretary Dr Alagu Varsini expressed great pride in the students’ remarkable performance. The leadership reaffirmed their commitment to empowering marginalised communities through education.

Looking ahead, TGSWREIS has launched exclusive coaching camps to prepare the qualified students for JEE Advanced 2025, which is scheduled for May 18. The department has already rolled out a strategic action plan aimed at ensuring that a significant number of these talented students secure admission into the prestigious IITs. With this structured and visionary approach, Telangana’s Gurukulas are emerging as powerful engines of social transformation and academic excellence.
