AP govt announces Rs 5 lakhs incentive for drone start-ups

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government will provide incentives up to Rs 5 lakhs to youth and aspiring industrialists to enter the drone sector with startups, said K Dinesh Kumar, Managing Director of the AP Drone Corporation.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the Advanced Atal Faculty Development Program on ā€˜A Deep Dive into Autonomous Vehicle Theory to Practiceā€™ at Dhane Kula Engineering College in Vijayawada on Monday. The 12-day training program began with an inaugural session where he addressed the students.




AP as ā€˜Drone Capital of Indiaā€™

He mentioned that the drone sector would grow to become a dominant field in the coming days and that chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu envisioned making Andhra Pradesh the ā€˜Drone Capital of India.ā€™

In this direction, the State has already made significant progress in the drone sector, he noted. There are vast opportunities for youth and technical students in drone manufacturing and services, and they should take advantage of them, he added.

20 per cent subsidy for drone manufacturing industries

He further explained that the government is offering a 20 per cent subsidy for those who set up industries in the drone manufacturing sector. The State is also planning to establish a drone hub on a 300-acre area in Oorvakallu.

He highlighted that the global drone industry is undergoing rapid changes, with significant technological improvements every day, and drones are increasingly being used to provide better services to people. Consequently, there will be abundant opportunities in this field. He urged technical institutions to educate students about the latest technological developments in drones.

The State government is ready to provide necessary support to educational institutions that come forward to offer training in drone technology. Additionally, Centers of Excellence related to drones are being set up in ITIs and polytechnics, along with skill development centres focused on the practical use of drones. He encouraged youth, technical students, and educational institutions to make use of these resources.
