BITS, Pilani rolls out B.Tech program in electronics for working professionals
This program is aimed at enabling professionals to pursue career opportunities in core electrical and electronics engineering (EEE), particularly in industries like telecommunications, semiconductors, IoT, and embedded systems
By Anoushka Caroline Williams Published on 1 Nov 2023 4:01 AM GMTHyderabad: Work Integrated Learning Programmes (WILP) division of Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani has introduced a new B. Tech program in electronics, specifically designed for working professionals.
This program is aimed at enabling professionals to pursue career opportunities in core electrical and electronics engineering (EEE), particularly in industries like telecommunications, semiconductors, IoT, and embedded systems.
The seven-semester degree program integrates foundational sciences, core technologies, and execution management, all without requiring participants to take a career break. Eligible candidates include professionals with a diploma in electronics and communication engineering or equivalent specializations such as electrical, instrumentation, and telecommunications, coupled with a minimum of one year of work experience.
The rationale behind this program stems from the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the electronics and telecommunications industries in India. The country's semiconductor industry is on a growth trajectory, projected to grow at a CAGR of 19.7% from 2022 to 2026. This growth is driven by the expanding demand in industries such as industrial machinery, automobiles, telecommunications equipment, and office automation. Emerging technologies like 5G and the anticipation of 6G telecom networks, lithium mining, and lithium-ion battery manufacturing are also poised for significant market penetration.
Various domains within the EEE sector, including aerospace, defense, space technology, agriculture, semiconductors, automobiles, and telecommunications, need skilled professionals and are expected to continue facing this demand in the foreseeable future.
Prof. Satya Sudhakar Yedlapalli, who leads the EEE group at BITS Pilani WILP, highlights the program's value proposition, emphasizing the pivotal role of electronics engineers in driving technological innovation. The program is designed to enhance professionals' competencies in various aspects, including circuits and devices, communication technologies, processor architectures, edge computing, IoT, and signal processing, aligning with the current needs of the industry.
As for the application process, interested individuals can find the program brochure and detailed information about the program on the B.Tech. Electronics Engineering program page on BITS Pilani's WILP website. The application deadline for admission to the program is December 11, 2023.
