Class 10 not enough: CM Revanth pushes for mandatory Intermediate education

Hyderabad: Every student who passes Class 10 must compulsorily complete Intermediate education, instructed chief minister A Revanth Reddy to officials in a meeting of the education department on Wednesday.

CM Revanth Reddy said, ā€œA large number of students pass Class 10, but this number significantly decreases by the time they complete Intermediate. The department must identify the reasons for this decline and work towards feasible solutions.ā€

Intermediate stage is crucial

The Intermediate education stage is crucial in a student’s life, and there is a need for proper guidance, said CM Revanth Reddy in a review meeting of the education department.

Officials informed that in other States, the system from Class 9 to 12 is common and the number of dropouts is lower there.

Study education system in other States

The chief minister directed officials to study the education systems in States where Intermediate is separate or where schools extend up to Class 12, and submit a comprehensive report on these models. He also suggested taking into account the suggestions and advice from the Education Commission, non-government organisations and civil society.

Discuss the issue in Legislative Assembly

The issue of Intermediate education must be discussed in the Assembly to bring out different points of view and solutions for the existing challenges faced in the present system.

He emphasised the need to focus not only on student enrollment in Intermediate but also on their attendance.

Here are some of the key directives and initiatives by the education department

Study the Class 9-12 system: Officials are to conduct a detailed study on this integrated schooling model prevalent in other States and submit a comprehensive report.

Secure Central-sponsored scheme funds: The chief minister emphasised the importance of securing funds from Centrally sponsored schemes for educational initiatives.

Establish large national flags: CM suggested installing large national flags within the premises of every school.

Accelerate the construction of schools: The CM directed officials to expedite the construction process of schools.

Expand residential schools: One Young India Residential School for boys and one for girls will be constructed in each constituency.
