Amaravati: From ‘No Bag Day’ to Robotics Labs, the Andhra Pradesh government implemented a series of reforms and programmes in the school education sector in 2025.

The initiatives were rolled out in a phased manner from January to December as part of a comprehensive overhaul aimed at improving learning outcomes, reducing academic stress, and strengthening holistic education.

January 2025: ‘No Bag Day’

The government formally introduced a “No Bag Day” every Saturday for students in government schools. The initiative aims to reduce academic stress and promote co-curricular and enrichment activities such as sports, visual and performing arts, and life-skills-based learning as part of broader education reforms.

February 2025: Unified Digital App for Teachers :

Approval was given for a Unified School Education Digital App, replacing nearly 45 separate teacher-facing applications. The move is intended to reduce teachers’ administrative workload and improve real-time classroom monitoring and parent engagement through a single digital interface.

March 2025: New Uniform and Curriculum Push :

The State unveiled a new government school uniform in cream and olive green, deliberately choosing a neutral, non-political colour scheme to promote inclusivity and uniform identity statewide. During the same month, the government reiterated progress on adopting an NCERT-aligned bilingual curriculum with QR-coded digital content for Classes 1 to 10, focusing on foundational literacy, numeracy, digital skills, and competency-based learning.

April 2025: Landmark Teacher Transfer Act and Key Announcements :

The Andhra Pradesh State Teachers Transfers Regulation Act, 2025 (Act No. 9 of 2025) was enacted and notified in the Gazette on April 4, coming into force on April 9. The Act provides a statutory framework for teacher transfers through web-based counselling, rationalisation based on pupil–teacher ratios, and clearly defined eligibility norms, entitlements, and penalties.

April also witnessed the launch of LEAP (Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh) for the 2025–26 academic year, emphasising play-based learning, competency-focused pedagogy, AI-enabled assessment, and digital ecosystems.

Issuance of the Mega DSC–2025 notification, announcing 16,347 teaching vacancies across cadres, with applications open from April 20 to May 15.

Declaration of SSC (Class X) results, with a state pass percentage of 81.14%, and Parvathipuram Manyam district emerging as the topper with 93.90% pass rate.

May 2025: DSC Applications Close

The application process for Mega DSC–2025 concluded on May 15, paving the way for computer-based tests, answer key release, verification, and merit list preparation.

June 2025: Transfers, Learning Kits, and Literacy Mission

Teacher transfers were executed under the new Transfer Act through the first round of web-based counselling, accompanied by over 4,000 promotions in teaching cadres.

The State also rolled out:

SRKVM (Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Vidyarthi Mitra) Education Kits to about 35.94 lakh students, along with assessment booklets for structured evaluations.

Mission ‘Akshara Andhra’, a statewide literacy campaign targeting universal functional literacy across all age groups.

Yogandhra–2025, a large-scale yoga programme conducted around International Yoga Day, with lakhs of students and teachers participating in school- and cluster-level sessions.

July 2025: Mega PTM 2.0 and Green Passport

The State conducted Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) 2.0 on July 10 across more than 61,000 government schools. The event set a Guinness World Record for the largest parent-teacher meeting, recording participation of over 53.4 lakh parents and teachers, with total attendance exceeding 1.5 crore.

In the same month, the Green Passport initiative was launched to promote environmental awareness, tree plantation, and sustainability practices among students.

August 2025: AI, STEM and Robotics Labs

In partnership with the Cyient Foundation, the government inaugurated AI, STEM and Robotics laboratories in 50 government schools in Visakhapatnam, strengthening hands-on technology education, coding literacy, and inquiry-based learning

September 2025: DSC Appointments

The final merit list for Mega DSC–2025 was released around mid-September, followed by appointment letter issuance for 16,347 selected candidates, after verification and roster compliance.

October 2025: Civic Education and APTET Notification

Guidelines were issued for Mock Student Assemblies and Constitution Day programmes, encouraging civic awareness and participatory learning. The APTET October 2025 notification and information bulletin were also released, opening the online application window for teacher eligibility testing.

November 2025: FLN Survey and Values in Education

A Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) baseline survey was conducted from November 24 to December 6, covering about 14 lakh primary students.

The government organised Vidya Viluvala Sadassu–2025 in Vijayawada, a values-based education conclave chaired by Education Minister Nara Lokesh, featuring spiritual orator Chaganti Koteswara Rao. Plans were announced to expand the programme statewide.

On Constitution Day (November 26), a Mock Student Legislative Assembly was held at the AP Legislative Assembly, during which Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu released a Children’s Constitution of India.

December 2025: FLN Mission, SSC Plan, and MUSTABU

Based on the FLN survey findings, the State launched a 75-Day FLN Mission to improve reading, comprehension, and numeracy skills through structured daily interventions.

A 100-Day Action Plan for SSC students was also announced to strengthen academic readiness ahead of board examinations.

On December 20, the Chief Minister launched MUSTABU, a student wellness and discipline programme focusing on hygiene, neatness, self-confidence, and leadership. The initiative targets nearly 7.5 million students across government and private schools, complementing academic reforms with behavioural development.
