Furnish details on present status of PTAs in schools: Telangana HC directs state
The provision requires every school, government, aided, or private, to constitute a PTA to facilitate regular interaction between parents and teachers

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has asked the state government to explain whether all schools have constituted Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) as mandated under the Telangana Education Act.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin issued the direction on Tuesday while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Uppu Mallikarjun Patil, a law graduate from Sangareddy district.
Law mandates PTAs in all schools
The petitioner sought the Court’s intervention to ensure the strict implementation of Section 30 of the Telangana Education Act and G.O.Ms. No. 246, dated October 17, 1987.
The provision requires every school, government, aided, or private, to constitute a PTA to facilitate regular interaction between parents and teachers on academic and administrative matters.
Petitioner highlights Non-Compliance
Counsel for the petitioner contended that a large number of schools in the State have failed to establish PTAs despite the legal requirement. This, the petitioner argued, undermines the participatory approach envisioned in the Act, depriving parents of a formal platform to engage in school governance and improve educational outcomes.
Court seeks status report from Education Department
Taking note of the submissions, the Division Bench directed the Principal Secretary, School Education Department, to furnish details on the present status of PTA formation in all categories of schools within six weeks.
The matter has been adjourned to enable the government to file its response before the next hearing.
