Hyderabad: The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) has filed a writ appeal challenging a single-judge High Court order that invalidated the results of the Group-1 main examinations.

The TGPSC is seeking a suspension of the order dated September 9.

TGPSC asked to re-evaluate all answer scripts

The order, issued by Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao, had set aside both the final marks list, dated March 10, and the general ranking list (March 30) for the Group-1 exams.

The judge directed the TGPSC to re-evaluate all answer scripts using a ‘moderation method’ as per the Supreme Court’s judgment in the case of Sanjay Singh and another vs. State of UP Public Service Commission.

The single-judge order stipulated that if the re-evaluation and subsequent announcement of results were not completed to fill the 563 vacant posts, the Group-1 main examination would be cancelled.

Furthermore, it directed the TGPSC to either re-evaluate the scripts or re-conduct the Group-1 mains exam for all preliminary qualifiers within eight months.

TGPSC claims court order is contradictory

In its appeal, the TGPSC Secretary argues that Justice Rajeshwar Rao’s order is contradictory.

The appeal highlights that the judge simultaneously ordered the TGPSC to re-evaluate the scripts and threatened to cancel the exam, while also directing the commission to re-conduct the exam within eight months.

The TGPSC believes this presents a ‘mutually contradictory’ directive, making it difficult to comply.

Based on this and other grounds, the TGPSC is requesting that the High Court division bench suspend the single judge’s order. The writ appeal is expected to be heard soon.
