Hyderabad: Ninety-three percent of seats in emerging technologies and computer science engineering streams have been filled in the first phase of counselling for the Engineering, Agriculture, and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (EAPCET) this year.
Telangana has a total of 83,054 engineering seats available for the academic year 2025-26. Of which 77,561 (about 93 percent) have been allotted in the first phase of counseling.
Over 77,500 seats allotted
In a statement, Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) said that 77,561 out of the 83,054 seats under the convenor quota were allotted. This leaves only 5,493 seats for the upcoming phases. However, 16,793 candidates who submitted their preferences did not get any seats in this round.
Mock allotment benefited thousands
āThis year, we introduced a mock allotment, which benefited nearly 44,000 students, as many changed their options after seeing the results,ā said TGCHE chairman V Balakista Reddy.
In previous years, he said, students ended up accepting seats in less preferred colleges due to negligence while selecting options. āThis time, 36,544 students secured seats in much better colleges than initially allotted in the mock round,ā he added.
Computer Science, AI, IoT courses see maximum demand
Seats in computer science and IT-related courses, including AI, computer engineering, computer science and business systems, CSE (IoT and cybersecurity including blockchain technology), CSE (networks), and CSE (IoT), were nearly exhausted. Of the total 58,742 seats available in these streams, 57,042 were filled in the first phase itself.
Electronics stream almost filled
In electronics and electrical engineering courses, 87.23% of the 16,112 seats were taken. Streams such as electronics, communication and instrumentation engineering, electronics and telematics, electronics engineering (VLSI design and technology), electronics and computer engineering, and electronics and instrumentation engineering saw complete occupancy.
Civil, Mechanical record moderate allotment
Meanwhile, in civil, mechanical, and allied branches, 79.32% of the 7,100 seats were allotted. Other courses with 100% seat occupancy include chemical engineering, geoinformatics, and agricultural engineering.
