Hyderabad: OU VC Prof Molugaram conducts surprise inspections; orders action against absent teachers

Hyderabad: Osmania University vice-chancellor Prof Kumar Molugaram, on Tuesday, conducted surprise inspections across various departments and colleges on the campus.

He directed swift action against absent faculty members. The move is aimed at enforcing strict punctuality and enhancing academic excellence.

Accompanied by OSD Prof. Jitender Naik, the Vice-Chancellor interacted with students in classrooms, inquiring about the adherence to the stipulated class schedule. Prof. Kumar was met with instances where students were present, but their respective faculty members were unavailable to conduct the lecture.

The Vice-Chancellor immediately ordered officials to take strict action against teachers who failed to attend classes on time. He meticulously scrutinized faculty attendance registers across various colleges and instructed the respective Heads of Departments to seek explanations from the absent teachers.

In a clear statement to both students and faculty, Prof. Kumar emphasized that all faculty members must adhere to strict punctuality to achieve the university's goal of academic excellence. He urged them to actively participate in teaching and research, thereby contributing to the overall development and reputation of Osmania University. Prof. Kumar also assured the university community that the administration is ready to provide all necessary support for these efforts.

Why the Surprise Inspections?

The surprise inspections conducted by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram are likely part of a broader, sustained effort to enforce academic discipline and address long-standing issues concerning the quality of teaching and institutional accountability at Osmania University.

Institutions like OU, with its vast network of campuses and affiliated colleges, often face challenges related to faculty commitment, irregular class conduct, and maintenance of academic standards. Previous reports and internal audits at the university have, at times, highlighted concerns regarding irregular attendance, non-recognition of courses in affiliated colleges, and even issues related to proper infrastructure and academic record-keeping.

The move is to focus on class attendance and punctuality, and also on a culture of accountability among faculty.
