Hyderabad: From improving academic standards to focusing on management of disciplinary cases, the principals of the Hyderabad region discussed many aspects related to educational standards during the 3-day Annual Regional Principals’ Conference of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).

The conference concluded on Friday with a valedictory session presided over by T Gopalakrishna, deputy commissioner, NVS Hyderabad Region.

The conference, held from May 21 to 23, witnessed a series of insightful deliberations aimed at reinforcing academic standards, enhancing co-curricular engagements and streamlining administrative protocols.

Over the course of three days, principals from across the region engaged in extensive discussions and planning sessions focused on:

Enhancing academic excellence: Strategies to improve both qualitative and quantitative academic outcomes were extensively discussed. Emphasis was laid on innovative teaching practices, performance tracking and remedial interventions.

Promotion of co-curricular and sports activities: Detailed plans were formulated for cluster and regional-level sports events, cultural programs and integration meets aimed at nurturing students’ holistic development.

Rules and procedures under CCS rules: Surya Prakash, assistant commissioner, provided a detailed exposition on the Central Civil Services (CCS) rules, particularly focusing on procedures for dealing with disciplinary cases. He emphasised the importance of uniformity, transparency and adherence to due process in all administrative and disciplinary actions across the region. He also highlighted the procedures to be followed in cases of POSCO, sexual harassment in workplaces, etc.

Financial management: Mithilesh, accounts officer, addressed the gathering on best practices in auditing and accounting procedures, enhancing financial transparency and accountability across institutions.

Infrastructure and maintenance: KV Reddy, general manager (Construction), provided an elaborate presentation on issues related to school infrastructure, including regular and special repairs, and maintenance protocols. His session was instrumental in highlighting proactive measures for infrastructure upkeep.

In a special segment, toppers of the region were felicitated with special awards as a mark of appreciation for their outstanding achievements, meticulous planning, and the dedicated supervision by their mentors.

Maintaining the legacy of Hyderabad’s educational performance

“There is an urgent need to fill all 80 seats in Class XI through lateral entry and making concerted efforts to attract eligible and meritorious students,” said Gopalakrishna during the valedictory address.

“It is important to sustain the legacy and performance of the Hyderabad Region in academics, discipline and sports. Timely processing of retirement benefits for employees, with a call for early initiation of procedures to ensure hassle-free settlements, is as important,” he added.

He made an appeal to prioritise the safety and security of students across all campuses.

The annual conference was aimed at establishing the region’s commitment to academic rigour, student welfare and operational efficiency, setting the course for another productive academic year ahead
