Hyderabad: Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has revoked the termination of 55 faculty members and 60 non-teaching staff.
This decision comes after the Tata Education Trust (TET) committed to releasing funds for their salaries. TISS is a University established in 1936 and fully funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of the Government of India,
The individuals affected were engaged under programs funded by TET on a contractual basis for specific program durations.
Due to the expiration of these contracts and pending fund release, TISS issued discontinuation letters on June 28, 2024.
However, recent discussions with TET have led to a positive development regarding the release of funds.
"The Tata Education Trust has assured us that resources will be made available to resolve this issue," stated the Registrar of TISS in a formal communication. "TET has committed to releasing funds for the salaries of TET project/programme faculty and non-teaching staff."
As a result, the letter dated June 28, 2024, has been withdrawn with immediate effect. The affected faculty and staff are requested to continue their work, and their salaries will be disbursed as soon as the TET Support Grant is received by the institute.
