Hyderabad: The Union minister of health and family welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya, on Tuesday announced that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Postgraduate) 2021 will be held on 11 September across the country following COVID-19 protocols.

In view of the surge in coronavirus cases, the Central government on 15 April had decided to postpone NEET-PG 2021 examination. The exam was scheduled to be held on 18 April 2021.

NEET-PG is usually conducted for about 30,000 PG seats in medical colleges in January every year.

In the wake of the second wave of COVID-19 that hit the country earlier this year, the Central government had announced that the exams will not be conducted before 31 August. It had also announced that students will be given at least a month after the announcement of the exam before it is conducted.

The move was intended to make a large number of qualified doctors available for COVID-19 duties and also utilize the final-year MBBS students and junior residents to provide services such as teleconsultation and monitoring of mild COVID-19 cases.

Earlier on Monday, the Union minister of education, Dharmendra Pradhan, had announced that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (undergraduate) 2021 will be held on 12 September 2021 across the country following COVID-19 protocols. The application process for NEET-UG will begin from 5 p.m on 13 July through the NTA website(s).
