Telangana: In a first, four government schools in Nirmal launch Space Science Labs
Nirmal: Four government schools in Nirmal district have earned the rare honor of becoming the first educational institutions in Telangana to commission state-of-the-art Space Science Labs.
Bringing space science to villages
This first-of-its-kind initiative reflects Chief Minister A Revanth Reddyās vision to transform public education. The labs were established with a total budget of Rs 20 lakh, supported by the district administration, to make scientific and space-based learning accessible to children in rural areas.

Schools equipped with modern labs
The new astronomy labs have been set up at Kasturba Gandhi Girls School in Ananthapet (Nirmal Mandal), Zilla Parishad High School in Son village (Son Mandal), ZP High School in Poschal village (Mamada Mandal), and ZP High School in Bosi village (Tanoor Mandal).
Advanced learning tools installed
Each lab is equipped with a high-resolution telescope, a virtual reality headset, a smart TV with 3D simulations, and scientific models of satellites, planets, and the solar system. These facilities will help students understand complex subjects such as planetary motion, stellar formation, space technology, satellite engineering, and physics.

Visionary administration
The initiative was implemented under the leadership of Nirmal District Collector Abhilasha Abhinav, who turned the Chief Ministerās progressive ideas into action.
āThis is more than an educational project. It is a social transformation. A young girl from Ananthapet or a boy from Bosi can now imagine becoming an astronaut or a scientist,ā the Collector said.
Focus on equal opportunities
Speaking earlier about science-led reforms in education, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had emphasised that while talent exists equally in all corners of the state, opportunity often does not. This initiative aims to bridge that gap and create equal opportunities for rural students.

Expected outcomes
Officials expect the labs to help identify science talent early, increase interest in space research and innovation, and inspire students towards careers in ISRO, DRDO, NASA, and other global scientific institutions.
The labs are also seen as a means to empower first-generation learners through experiential and interactive learning.
Setting a benchmark for Telangana
With this initiative, Nirmal district has set a benchmark for science and technology education in rural India, aligning with the Chief Ministerās broader mission to empower government school students, especially those from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the officials said.
