NIT Rourkela to begin JoSAA/CSAB counselling from June 19.

Odisha: The National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) is set to conduct the centralised seat allocation process for the year 2023 for admissions into various undergraduate programs at 31 NITs, IIEST, 26 IIITs, 3 SPAs, and 36 GFTIs.

The registration process for the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) rounds will commence on June 19, 2023, immediately after the declaration of JEE (Advanced) results.

Professor K Umamaheshwar Rao, director of NIT Rourkela and chairman of CSAB 2023, said, “There is no JEE (Main) cutoff to participate in the JoSAA/CSAB counselling process. Candidates should carefully follow the steps of the online process and seek assistance from the help centres or multilingual helplines provided.”

According to Professor Umamaheshwar, NIT Rourkela is expecting a rise in the number of registrations from candidates in the northeastern states and Union Territories for the CSAB-2023. In order to facilitate an inclusive counselling process, NIT Rourkela plans to set up multilingual helpdesks and help centres across the country.

Around 2.5 to 3 lakh candidates, who have qualified JEE (Main) are expected to register for approximately 40,000 seats in the NIT+ system, which includes NITs, IIEST, IIITs, SPAs, and Other-GFTIs. This also includes the reservation of 20% of seats for female candidates in NITs. The entire choice filling, seat allotment, and document verification process will be conducted online to eliminate the need for travel.

Changes in JoSAA/CSAB-2023

Candidates aiming for admission to IITs and the NIT+ System must secure at least 75% marks in their Class 12 or be in the top 20 percentile in the Class 12 exam conducted by their respective boards. The qualifying marks for SC/ST/PwD students will be 65% in the Class 12 exam.

OCI card holders eligible for counselling

Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders can participate in the JoSAA/CSAB counselling process under the general (GEN) category this year. They will be treated on par with Indian nationals for the seat allocation process and will also be eligible for female supernumerary seats. However, candidates occupying seats in JoSAA and DASA rounds must relinquish one seat before the start of CSAB-Special Rounds.

Inclusive counselling

NIT Rourkela has established a multilingual helpdesk at the CSAB-2023 headquarters, providing assistance in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Bangla, Hindi, Odia, and English. Additionally, 52 help centres, at least one in each state/UT, have been set up to assist students online and offline in their local languages.
