Jangaon: In a move set to revolutionise classroom learning, all government primary schools in Jangaon district have switched to the U-shaped seating arrangements to ensure every student gets equal attention and actively participates in lessons.

A step towards inclusive education

This innovative model is being implemented under the guidance of district collector Rizwan Basha Shaik, who emphasised that education must evolve with time to meet the needs of students.

ā€œOur aim is to make classrooms more interactive, inclusive and effective. The U-seating arrangement is not just about how students sit, it’s about how they learn, engage and evolve,ā€ the collector said.

How U-seating benefits students

Teachers have reported multiple advantages since adopting the new layout.

Every student is clearly visible to the teacher, enabling better eye contact and engagement. The traditional concept of ā€˜backbenchers’ no longer exists, ensuring equal access to learning for all children.

The seating arrangement also boosts confidence among students as they feel seen and heard in the classroom. It helps them focus better, draws their attention naturally to the teacher and maintains discipline.

Encourages peer learning and teamwork

Officials noted that the U-shaped layout facilitates peer learning by enabling students to easily share ideas, discuss and help each other. It also supports group activities as small teams can form and work together without the need to rearrange furniture frequently.

Teachers find it easier to implement differentiated instruction with this model, as they can quickly identify students who need additional support and provide timely help.

Designed for comfort and flexibility

The district administration has ensured that the new seating arrangement prioritises student health and comfort. Teachers have been instructed to adjust seating immediately if any student experiences discomfort such as neck strain.

The model is particularly beneficial in multi-grade classrooms, making it easier for a single teacher to handle students from different levels and encourage collaborative learning among them.

Parents welcome the new seating arrangements

With digital learning tools already in use across government schools, the U-shaped seating is adding a new dimension to classroom learning. Parents have welcomed the move, saying it will make their children more confident and future-ready.

ā€œIf digital tools opened the door to knowledge, U-seating might be the turn that leads our children toward a brighter, more confident future,ā€ said a parent from Jangaon.

A new educational philosophy

Inspired by models implemented in Kerala, this initiative signifies a major shift in educational philosophy in Telangana.

Officials believe that with every child visible, included and engaged, learning outcomes will improve significantly. In Jangaon’s classrooms today, every child matters and every seat is a seat for success, the officials added.
