Hyderabad: Osmania University charts roadmap for massive revamp under ‘Mega Transformation Project’
Hyderabad: In a major push to transform Osmania University (OU) into a globally reputed institution of excellence, a series of high-level strategic consultations led by vice-chancellor (VC) Prof. Kumar Molugaram concluded this week.
The inclusive exercise, which brought together nearly 200 students along with all academic and administrative staff, aims to finalise a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) that will serve as a strategic roadmap for the University’s ‘Mega Transformation Project.’
The initiative is in direct alignment with the ambitious vision set by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to elevate OU's standards to match institutions like Stanford and Oxford, a pledge he made following his first visit to the campus in August 2025.
VC’s inclusive leadership drives consultations
The consultations, held at the Senate Hall, underscored the VC’s commitment to a ‘collective endeavour’ for the University’s future.
Academic Leadership: A special meeting with Deans and Principals was held on October 29, followed by a comprehensive session with Heads of Departments and Chairpersons of Boards of Studies on the morning of November 3. Deliberations focused on academic reforms, curriculum innovation, research enhancement and global collaboration.
Administrative Backbone: The afternoon of November 3 saw a dedicated meeting with non-teaching and administrative staff—including Registrars and Assistants—to gather essential operational insights for boosting institutional efficiency.
Student Voice: A significant highlight was the student interaction meeting,g where 200 students shared enthusiastic suggestions on academic enrichment, digital learning resources, hostel facilities, and campus environment improvement.
Mandate for research innovation and digital transformation
Prof. Kumar Molugaram, an eminent academician and distinguished Civil Engineering researcher, assumed charge as the 26th Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University on October 19, 2024.
An alumnus himself, Prof. Molugaram’s leadership has consistently focused on academic distinction, research innovation and digital transformation. He previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Principal of the University College of Engineering, where he spearheaded digital automation and secured NBA reaccreditation.
The current push for a Mega Transformation Blueprint follows the Chief Minister’s Rs 1,000 crore vision for OU, announced during his visit in August.
This commitment aims to restore the University’s historic prestige and intellectual wealth, making the current comprehensive stakeholder consultations a critical next step in mobilising government support and resources for the ambitious plan.
The strategic roadmap
The valuable inputs gathered from this week’s inclusive consultations—spanning academic, administrative, and student perspectives—will form the foundation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
This document will be submitted to the Government of Telangana and will serve as the strategic roadmap for implementing the University's transformation, encompassing world-class infrastructure, advanced learning spaces, and a vibrant research and innovation ecosystem.
Expressing his appreciation for the active participation, Prof Molugaram stated, “The future we envision can only be realised through the shared commitment, creativity, and collaboration of every member of the Osmania community.”
