Prof. Sandeepta Burgula wins woman innovator award at global conference in Malaysia

Hyderabad: Prof. Sandeepta Burgula from the Department of Microbiology at Osmania University has been awarded the Woman Innovator Award at the Second International Conference on Recent Innovations in Biological, Chemical and Clinical Sciences. The conference was held at Manipal University College in Melaka, Malaysia, and featured participants from India, Germany, Malaysia, the USA, and Italy.
Award-Winning Innovation for Sepsis Detection
Prof. Burgula received the award for her innovative gold nanoparticle-based diagnostic test aimed at the rapid and affordable detection of sepsisāa severe medical condition that affects one in six ICU patients. Her diagnostic tool is designed for low-resource settings, including rural health centres, making early detection of sepsis more accessible and cost-effective.
The development of this technology was a collaborative effort with her Ph.D. scholars, MVS Sandhya and Ramesh Kande. The project is currently funded by the Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi. The technologyās potential to save lives in under-served areas was highlighted as a key factor in her selection for the award.

The international conference saw participation from over 200 delegates, with more than 90 high-impact presentations across various scientific fields. Prof. Burgulaās innovation was recognized for its scientific merit and potential social impact, setting it apart from other presentations.
