Hyderabad: The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) has made a significant leap in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject, rising 100 places. Last year, the institute’s ranking in Physics and Astronomy was in the range of 600 to 610, but this year it has climbed to the 501 to 550 range.

The rankings assess 1,594 institutions offering more than 15,700 academic programmes in 54 subjects.

This year’s rankings saw the addition of three new subjects—data science, history of art, and marketing.

IIT-H has improved its ranking in QS over the last four years from over 1,300 to one of the top 600 globally. With 273 accomplished faculty and over 1,000 research scholars, IIT-H has a stronghold on research, ranking 120 globally in citations per faculty.

Professor B.S. Murty, director of IIT-H, expressed his excitement and tweeted, “It is exciting news for IIT-H because, with just 14 years of existence, it has been able to come into the limelight. We are the eighth IIT to be listed in the physics rankings this year. This has been possible through a lot of hard work by all the faculty and students. The Physics department has been at the forefront of introducing a number of new programmes.”
