Hyderabad: Outstanding scholarship dues of Rs 365.75 crore have been cleared by the Telangana State government for education and welfare departments.
Deputy chief minister and finance minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu made an announcement on Monday, marking the full clearance of arrears that had been pending since the previous administration’s tenure.
Prioritising education despite constraints, says govt
Speaking at a review meeting held at Praja Bhavan, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasised that the ‘People’s Government’ views education as the primary engine for social transformation. He asserted that financial constraints would not hinder the government’s commitment to students from marginalised communities.
“Only through education can comprehensive and lasting change be brought about in society,” Vikramarka stated.
“Our government is taking decisive steps to ensure that BC, SC and ST students do not face hurdles in their academic journeys,” he said.
Breakdown of fund allocation
The funds were released immediately following orders from the Finance Department. The total disbursement of Rs 365.75 crore is distributed across three key departments to address specific backlog requirements:
SC welfare department: Rs 191.63 crore
Tribal welfare department: Rs 152.59 crore
BC welfare department: Rs 21.62 crore
Aid to help thousands of students across Telangana
The decision followed an intensive review session with top officials, including finance department principal secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania and representatives from the various welfare departments.
The move is expected to provide much-needed relief to thousands of students across the state who have been waiting for their scholarship disbursements to cover tuition and living expenses.
By clearing these ‘one-go’ arrears, the government aims to start the new fiscal cycle with a clean slate for student welfare programs.
