Hyderabad: The Skill Development Centre in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) secured funding to provide contemporary biology training programs for rural employees, which includes students and instructors.
Postgraduate biology students from impoverished Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) do not always receive comprehensive laboratory skills training, making them unable to compete in academia and business at both global and Indian levels.
The Department of Health Research (DHR), Government of India, has sanctioned Rs 55,62,500 for a three-year term, with a possible extension based on the effectiveness of the training programmes.
The DHR received the application under the Support to Institutions for Imparting Training (SIIT) programme. The University of Hyderabad also approved a grant of Rs 26,00,000 through its Institute of Eminence (IoE). “This generous funding will help many students from rural areas who do not have access to quality hands-on experience in the areas of modern biology,” said Prof Suresh Yenugu, coordinator of the Skill Development Centre.
“Gaps in a student’s desired skill sets and certification are widening. These voids must be filled as soon as possible,” he added. The goal of the training is to teach and empower people from rural regions to work in academics or industry.
According to the financial agencies’ mandate, the Skill Development Centre at UoH will offer at least three training programs every year. There will be no registration fees for participants and boarding and housing will be supplied at no cost.
