Telangana has more women undergrad students than men in 2023

Hyderabad: An analysis of admissions data by Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST) 2023 revealed that more women than men are enrolling in undergraduate programs. Out of a total of 204,674 students admitted in the present academic year, 108,150 were women, constituting 52.84 per cent of the total admissions, while menās enrolment stood at 96,524 persons.

āThe increase is due to a large number of residential degree colleges that have come up in the State. Out of 85 welfare residential degree colleges, nearly 50 are for women. Moreover, a lot of awareness has come in the families to send girls for higher education,ā said Prof Limbadri.
Data includes students from other states
In the current academic year, a total of 3,89,049 seats were available in 1,064 degree colleges, with 87,112 seats in 155 government colleges. Of these, 53,886 seats have been filled.
TSCHE secretary Dr N Srinivasa Rao highlighted the diversity among students, stating, āIn terms of demographics, we have diverse students from all over the state and the neighbours such as Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.ā
BCom is top choice
Commerce emerges as the top choice for students, with an impressive 85,153 enrolments for BCom. Following closely is BSc, attracting 69,117 students, including 43,180 for BSc Life Sciences and 25,937 for BSc Physical Sciences in the current academic year. BA and BBA programs have a combined enrolment of 29,752 and 15,160, respectively.
The introduction of skill sector courses focusing on retailing, e-commerce, operations and logistics, content and creative writing, media and entertainment, animation, and entertainment has garnered positive responses.
A total of 1,398 students have enrolled in these courses, which involve a unique approach to learning. Students undergo classroom training three days a week and spend the remaining three days in the industry for internships.
