Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday extended till November 18 the interim stay on the order of a Single Judge that had set aside the final marks list and general ranking list of the Telangana State Public Service Commission’s (TGPSC) Group-1 examination.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin, was hearing a batch of 17 writ appeals filed by the TGPSC challenging the September 9, order of Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao.
Background of the case
The Single Judge had earlier directed the Commission to re-evaluate all the answer scripts of the Group-1 Main Examination by applying the moderation method manually and to announce fresh results for 563 notified posts.
Challenging this order, the TGPSC moved the Division Bench, which, on September 24, had passed an interim order suspending the Single Judge’s directions. The Bench had permitted the Commission to issue appointment orders to the 563 selected candidates, subject to the outcome of the appeals.
Court seeks counter-affidavits from petitioners
During Wednesday’s proceedings, the Chief Justice Bench directed the counsels for the unsuccessful candidates, who had earlier filed writ petitions challenging the results, to submit their counter-affidavits by the next date of hearing.
The court indicated that the matter would be taken up for final adjudication once the counters were filed.
Interim order extended
Until then, the Division Bench extended the interim suspension of the Single Judge’s order, thereby maintaining the status quo in favour of the TGPSC and the 563 selected candidates.
The Bench reiterated that any appointments issued under the earlier interim order would remain subject to the final judgment in the batch of writ appeals.
Unsuccessful candidates had moved Supreme Court
It may be recalled that some unsuccessful candidates, who had obtained an earlier stay from the Single Judge, later approached the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s interim order dated September 24.
However, the Apex Court remanded the matter back to the Telangana High Court for final disposal, leaving the Division Bench to adjudicate the issue on merits.
Next hearing scheduled for November 18
After hearing both sides, the Division Bench adjourned the matter to November 18, 2025, and continued the interim relief granted earlier. The fate of the 563 Group-1 appointments now hinges on the High Court’s final decision in the batch of writ appeals filed by the TGPSC.
