TET results out: Only 30,649 candidates qualify; pass percentage at 33.98%

Hyderabad: In a major setback for teaching aspirants, the Telangana Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) results declared on Monday revealed that only about one-third of the candidates managed to clear the exam this year.

Education Principal Secretary Yogita Rana announced the results at the State Secretariat. This was the first time the TET was conducted online as a Computer-Based Test (CBT), held between June 18 and 30 across sixteen sessions.

Low overall pass percentage

Of the 1,83,653 candidates who applied, 1,37,429 appeared for the exam. However, only 30,649 candidates qualified, marking an overall pass percentage of just 33.98 per cent.

Paper I showed better results

Paper I, meant for candidates aspiring to teach Classes I to V, was conducted in six sessions across seven languages – Telugu, Hindi, Urdu, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil and Bengali. Out of 47,224 candidates who took Paper I, 29,043 passed, recording a relatively high pass percentage of 61.50 per cent.

Paper II results poor

Paper II, for teaching Classes VI to VIII, was conducted in ten sessions in Telugu, Hindi, Urdu, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Sanskrit. It had two subject specialisations – Mathematics & Science, and Social Studies.

In Mathematics and Science, 48,998 candidates appeared, but only 17,574 cleared it, resulting in a 35.87 per cent pass rate. For Social Studies, the pass percentage was even lower at 31.73 per cent, with 13,075 qualifying out of 41,207 candidates.
