Hyderabad: Prof. V Bharathi Harishankar, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Avinashilingam University for Women, Coimbatore.
An alumna of the University of Hyderabad (UoH), Prof Harishankar is presently a member of the School Board of Humanities.
Prof Harishankar was a Ph.D. scholar at the Department of English, UoH from 1989 to 1993. She was previously the Head of Women's Studies, the Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), and the Director Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) at the University of Madras.
A recognized postcolonial studies scholar, she was also instrumental in setting up the Gender Lab for Diversity and Inclusiveness Education (GLIDE), the first of its kind in the country, in collaboration with Sutherland Global Services at the University of Madras.
An active researcher, Prof Harishankar has helmed and collaborated on numerous projects with IIT Madras, International Development Research Centre, (Canada); the National Commission for Women; University Grants Commission and associated with European Union- Erasmus projects as well. She has also worked on European Union-Erasmus projects on capacity building.
Prof Harishankar was nominated to the Royal Society of Arts in 2021.
