Eight chain snatchers arrested in Vizag city
By Newsmeter Network Published on 28 Sep 2020 12:45 PM GMTVisakhapatnam: The Vizag city police, on 28 September, busted two chain-snatching gangs and arrested eight persons. The police have recovered four gold chains and four bikes from them.
In the first case, the police arrested five members of a gang, including three juveniles, who had snatched gold chains in three separate incidents under Duvvada, Gajuwaka, and New Port police station limits in Vizag city. The police recovered three gold chains (90 gms) and three bikes from the gang.
The arrested have been identified as Y. Sunil (20) and B. Nani (29).
The deputy commissioner of police (crimes), V. Suresh Babu, said the gangs targeted lonely women on the roads. He also said that the gang was addicted to alcohol and ganja and snatched gold chains to meet their needs.
Meanwhile, the police also arrested a three member-gang allegedly involved in a chain-snatching offense in the KGH area in Vizag city on 26 September. The arrested have been identified as V. Satish (22), N. Rajesh (20), and K. Srinivas (19).
On 26 September, N. Yelamma was sweeping the front of her house when two persons on two-wheelers approached her and snatched a gold chain (around 22 gms) that she was wearing. Based on her complaint the police nabbed the trio and recovered the stolen chain.
The police said they have formed special teams to prevent such offenses in public places in the city. The police in plain clothes will identify and nab the suspects, they said.
