By Anurag Mallick Published on 6 Sep 2019 6:48 AM GMTHyderabad: Steve Smith or as some call him, 'The Digital Bradman', scored his third double hundred in tests as Australia piled up a mountain score of 497/8 dec. Steve Smith scored 211(319) which included 24 boundaries and two sixes.
Steve Smith was making his comeback to the test side as he was ruled out of the 3rd test following a concussion that he suffered due to Jofra Archer's bouncer in the second Test at Lord's.
Smith looked in excellent touch as he had no problem either leaving the deliveries in his style or facing Jofra Archer.
He brought up his 50 with a falling cover drive and was dropped on 60 off Stuart Broad. He then went on to score his 26th hundred in test matches.
He was caught at the first slip by Ben Stokes off Jack Leach, but to Smith's fortune, It was a no-ball. He was called back by Kumara Dharmasena as Smith went on to bring up his 150.
His fine form continued as he looked to have no difficulty in putting away the bad deliveries to the fence.
He then brought up his third 200 off 310 deliveries, which were also his third in tests and versus England as well. He got out on 211 as Australia declared their innings at 497/8 as Marnus Labuschgane, Tim Paine and Mitchell Starc scored half-centuries.
England were 23/1 by the end of the day's play as they lost Joe Denly who was out, caught by Mathew Wade off Pat Cummins.
