Akkineni clan fans seek apology from Balakrishna; Naga Chaitanya, Akhil release statement

Hyderabad: Actor Nandamuri Balakrishna is known as much for his films as for controversies. Balakrishna has slapped reporters and fans and during public events, spoken in an unparliamentary language that might put others around him in discomfort.

Balakrishna’s remarks made at the success meet of ‘Veera Simhuni Vijayotsavam’ held the other evening are going viral. Speaking about how he and his unit used to spend time on the sets, Balakrishna addressed late actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao as “Akkineni Tokkineni.”

The Akkineni clan is said to have been deeply hurt by Balakrishna’s unprofessional behaviour at the event. Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni, the young actors from the Akkineni family and Akkineni Nageswara Rao’s grandsons, released a statement following Balakrishna’s controversial remark.

“Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao garu, Akkineni Nageswara Rao garu, and SV Ranga Rao were great sons of Telugu cinema. Disrespecting them is degrading ourselves (sic),” read the note.

Fans of the late actor are also hurt by Balakrishna’s comments and have asked the actor-turned-politician to apologise. On the other hand, even though it surprises us all that none of the senior heroes have responded on this matter, what Chaitanya and Akhil have done is admirable.

While it looks like Chaitanya and Akhil have put a full stop to this matter, many people are wondering why Nagarjuna did not respond. People will now understand why Nagarjuna always kept away from Balakrishna.
