Andhra to enact new law to curb false propaganda, misinformation on social media
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh government is enacting a new law to curb false propaganda and misinformation on social media.
Home and Disaster Management Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said the law will be tabled in the coming session of the Legislative Assembly. He said the law is necessary to counter attempts to mislead the public and create unrest.
The minister alleged that YSRCP supporters have been deliberately twisting facts, presenting falsehoods as truths, and maligning the State’s image through fabricated online narratives. She made it clear that such activities will not be tolerated and warned of stringent action against offenders.
"The government will establish a fact-finding committee that will regularly verify claims and share accurate information with the public," said Anitha. Highlighting recent examples, she pointed to false reports suggesting that Amaravati was submerged and that the Prakasam Barrage gates were dysfunctional.
She reaffirmed that the government is determined to combat such misinformation decisively—by exposing the truth and enforcing strict legal measures against those responsible.
