Another film of Dhanush to skip theatrical release and release on OTT

The actor's most recent film Jagame Thandiram, directed by Karthik Subbaraj couldn't make it to the theatres due to the lockdown and was released on Netflix directly. There were a lot of expectations on the film but it ended up being a disaster with fans of Dhanush asking him to pick up such scripts again.

In July, Dhanush revealed the first look poster and title of this upcoming film. Titled Maaran, this film is being directed by Karthick Naren and has Malavika Mohanan playing the leading lady. Maaran also has an ensemble of actors including Samthurakani, Mahendran of Master fame, and Smruthi Venkat. GV Prakash Kumar is composing the music for Maaran and Vivekanand Santhosham has cranked the camera.

As per the latest information available, the makers of the film are not looking forward to releasing the film in the theatres. Maaran will directly release on Disney + Hotstar in January 2022, sometime around Pongal. Maaran is an investigative thriller and Dhanush is said to be seen in a never-before kind of role.

The final schedule of the film has also been completed and the crew is busy with the post-production of the film.

Besides Maaran, Dhanush has a lineup of projects in his kitty. He has Atrangi Re, a Hindi film with Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles, and the Hollywood project The Grayman. The shooting has been completed for both these films and they are under post-production formalities.

He has Thiruchitrambalam and Naane Varuvan as well in the lineup. He is even shooting for his straight Telugu film which is being directed by Sekhar Kammula. It will release in Tamil as well.
