Hyderabad: With slim chances of theatres reopening soon, several Hindi films went directly to OTTs in 2021. Here are our top five picks of the year.

Sardar Udham Singh

This name wasn't heard much until the film released. The film chronicles the lesser-known story of Indian revolutionary Sardar Udham Singh who avenged the deaths of his countrymen. Director Shoojit Sircar has built the film's narrative in the best possible way and it will keep you glued to your seat. The film goes back and forth between Punjab and London. The narration and screenplay are something you will definitely fall in love with. Watch it on Amazon Prime. Vicky Kaushal's performance is top-notch.

Shershaah

Starring Siddharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, this film is based on the life of late Captain Vikram Batra. It explores the Kargil War of 1999 with Pakistan and the demise of Capt. Vikram. The film received a good rating overall and it marks one of the best performances of Siddharth's career. It is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Haseen Dillruba

In this thriller, Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey give mind-blowing performances. Harshavardhan Rane has also done a great job and his looks could definitely kill. Suspected of killing her husband, the wife reveals the untold story of her unhappy marriage that blurs the truth further. But how the woman manages to get away will win your attention. Now streaming on Netflix.

Mimi

Directed by Laxman Utekar, 'Mimi' stars Kriti Sanon as a surrogate mother of a foreign couple. Kriti's performance is something you can look forward to. Unlike other commercial films she has been part of, Kriti has bagged a perfect role to prove her mettle. All the actors in the film have done well in their roles and the emotional drama will make you tear up. It is streaming on Netflix.

Rashmi Rocket

Another blockbuster film this year from Taapsee Pannu which skipped theatrical release and released on Zee5 directly. It is based on the true struggles faced by sportswomen and how they lose their careers just because of the high testosterone levels in their bodies. Priyanshu Painyuli plays Taapsee's husband and supports her in overcoming the hurdles and winning. 'Rashmi Rocket' is worth watching. Give it a try if you haven't watched it yet.

There are a few more films like 'Sherni', 'Pagglait', and '14 Phere' that released on OTT directly. Meanwhile, some big-budget movies such as 'Bhuj: The Pride of India', 'Hungama 2', 'The Big Bull', and 'Bhoot Police' failed to impress viewers.
