It may be recalled that Prudhviraj's wife Lakshmi, a native of Vijayawada city had moved the court on 10 January 2017, demanding Rs. 10 lakh maintenance from her husband. He married her in 1984 and they have two children.
Sri Lakshmi mentioned that Prudhviraj deserted her and she has been living with her parents, who had spent huge amounts for Prudhviraj's growth.
She also pointed out that Prudhviraj stayed at his maternal home in Vijayawada and sought work in films and serials on the silver screen. Once he became busy as an actor in various movies, he moved to Hyderabad city and started torturing her and removed her from his house in 2016.
Apparently upset with the attitude of Prudhviraj, Sri Lakshmi came to her hometown and approached the court demanding maintenance. Sri Lakshmi, in her petition, stated that Prudhviraj earns up to Rs. 30 lakh per month and demanded maintenance by showing his proof of income.
Since the actor did not appear for the court hearings, the 14th additional district court, popular as Family Court in June 2017 gave ex-parte judgement in favour of Sri Lakshmi. Later, he appealed to the court that he was not able to pay the maintenance to his wife and sought relief.
Based on the statements, document evidence and a detailed enquiry the family court judge, Indira Priyadarshini upheld the previous order and directed the actor to pay Rs 8 lakh every month as maintenance to his wife. The Judge also mentioned that the judgement is applicable from January 2017 and directed the actor to clear old dues from the day of filing the case.
