Hyderabad: Alia Bhatt has two big films in her kitty - Rajamouli's 'RRR' and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' - and both are waiting to hit the screens. Earlier, the two filmmakers had announced the release dates of their films, which happened to fall on consecutive days. Now, to avoid clash in the theatres, the release of 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' has been postponed to 18 February.
Movie critic Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to announce the new release date and wrote, "NEW RELEASE DATE OF 'GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI': 18 FEB 2022... #SanjayLeelaBhansali's #GangubaiKathiawadi - starring #AliaBhatt and #AjayDevgn - to release on 18 Feb 2022... Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada." (sic)
RRR is releasing on 7 January and since both the films are releasing in multiple languages and have Alia Bhatt as the leading lady and Ajay Devgn in key roles, the filmmakers have postponed Gangubai to 18 February.
Director Rajamouli had requested Sanjay Leela Bhansali to postpone the release of the film and Sanjay agreed. Responding to the same, Rajamouli tweeted, "The decision by Mr @JayantilalGada and Mr. #SanjayLeelaBhansali to move the release date is well appreciated. Our heartfelt wishes to #GangubaiKathiawadi..:)". (sic)
The period film, adapted from one of the chapters of noted author Hussain Zaidi's book 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai', features Bhatt in the title role of Gangubai, one of the most powerful, loved, and respected madams from Kamathipura during the 1960s. 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' also stars Seema Pahwa, Ajay Devgn, and Huma Qureshi.
Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt will play Sita in 'RRR'. The film, which marks her acting debut in Telugu, stars Ram Charan Tej and Jr NTR in the lead roles.
