By Bhavana Published on 30 Oct 2022 11:30 AM GMTHyderabad: Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) is undoubtedly one of the most renowned directors in the Tollywood film industry. He created a sensation in the industry with films like 'Shiva' and 'Gayam'. The director turned to Bollywood after his success in Tollywood and scored some decent hits there as well.
Later, he returned to south India and directed a few biopics. 'Raktha Charitra' and 'Killing Veerappan' are some of the superhits he scored. Thereafter, he hasn't made a single hit movie. To top it all, he is in the limelight only for controversies and not because of his films.
Surprisingly, he announced a few films just to create some controversy but did not even talk about them later. Let us take a look at the movies that RGV announced but didn't take off.
Saavitri/Sridevi
In October 2014, Ram Gopal Varma hogged the limelight by taking a nasty dig by announcing the name of his film— 'Savitri'. Many women's organisations slammed the director for picking such a name for a vulgar film. Later, he changed it to 'Sridevi'. But as the film was said to be 'A' rated, late actress Sridevi and her husband Boney Kapoor sent a legal notice to RGV to change the film's name. However, the movie hasn't been released yet.
Patta Pagalu
While Rajasekhar is suffering from back-to-back flops, RGV announced a film with the actor and titled it 'Patta Pagalu'. Billed as a horror thriller, the film was made in 2014 and it reportedly completed half of its shoot. The movie trailer was also released the same year. In 2021, RGV again promoted the movie saying it will be released soon. But to date, the film never saw the light of day.
Guns and Thighs
This RGV film needs no introduction. The film created a lot of buzz in the media because of its over-the-top scenes. As there is no censorship for web content such as web series, short films, documentaries and others, RGV said this semi-nude film will be released as a web series with the title 'Guns & Thighs'. Interestingly, the film created a storm on social media, bagging a lot of views for its trailer. But even this film has not been released yet.
Mogili Puvvu/Secret
This is another bilingual film that RGV announced but has never seen the light. Touted as a romantic thriller, the film stars Sachin Joshi as the lead actor. RGV and the makers released its trailer but the film was never released.
Kadapa
The trailer for this web series is available on YouTube. If you watch it, you can understand how much controversy it can create if released. Fortunately, this web series was also announced at a formal launch but was never released.
Sasikala
What can create more sensation in Tamil Nadu than a film on Sasikala? RGV had the same thought. He announced a film with the title 'Sasikala' and said it will be based on former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha's close associate and her mind games. However, the film has not even started shooting yet.
