Hits, superhits, and blockbusters: A look at Tollywood box office successes of 2022
As we look back, there was a bunch of Telugu movies that became blockbusters. Before welcoming 2023, let's have a look at the Telugu films that were super hits at the box office this year.

As we look back, there was a bunch of Telugu movies that became blockbusters. Before welcoming 2023, let's have a look at the Telugu films that were super hits at the box office this year.
1. Bangaraju (Hit)
Featuring Naga Chaitanya and Nagarjuna, this Kalyan Krishna directorial released on Sankranti this year with a budget of Rs. 38.15 crores and was a decent hit. It made Rs. 39.15 crores worldwide.
2. DJ Tillu (Double Blockbuster)
Starring Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Neha Shetty, this romantic crime comedy turned out to be an unexpected blockbuster at the box office. Made on a budget of Rs. 8.95 crores, the film grossed Rs. 17.25 crores worldwide and became a double blockbuster.
3. RRR (Double Blockbuster)
Needless to say, SS Rajamouli's magnum opus 'RRR', featuring Ram Charan and NTR, turned out to be the biggest hit. The movie made with a budget of Rs. 451 crores made Rs. 608.67 crores worldwide and became a double blockbuster.
4. KGF: Chapter 2 (Superhit)
Touted to be a sequel to the superhit film 'KGF: Chapter 1', 'KGF: Chapter 2' was released in a record number of theatres and the Telugu version collected Rs. 84.06 crores worldwide.
5. Don (Hit)
Kollywood hero Sivakarthikeyan's 'Don' Telugu rights was sold for Rs. 1.5 crores and the movie made Rs. 2.18 crores at the box office becoming a hit.
6. Major (Blockbuster)
Adivi Sesh starrer 'Major', a biopic of late NSG Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, was made on a budget of Rs. 18 crores and the film made Rs. 32.57 crores at the box office.
7. Vikram (Double Blockbuster)
The Telugu rights of Kamal Hassan's 'Vikram' that also featured Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil were sold for Rs. 7 crores and collected Rs. 16.75 crores worldwide.
8. Sita Ramam (Double Blockbuster)
It has been a long time since a love story turned out to be a super hit but 'Sita Ramam', featuring Dulquer Salman and Mrunaal Thakur and directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, changed this. This beautiful love story made on a budget of Rs. 30 crores made Rs. 91.4 crores at the box office.
9. Bimbisaara (Superhit)
Kalyan Ram starrer 'Bimbisara' directed by debutant Mallidi Vasisht was made on a budget of Rs. 40 crores and the film collected Rs. 64.57 crores at the box office.
10. Kantara (Double Blockbuster)
Rishabh Shetty's 'Kantara' was the year's biggest blockbuster not only in Kannada but also in other languages. The Telugu version of the film itself collected Rs. 60 crores at the box office whereas the film's budget was just Rs. 16 crores.
