IndiaJoy 8.0: How South Indian storytelling is shaping future of streaming entertainment

Hyderabad : The 8th edition of IndiaJoy 2025 celebrated the creativity, innovation, and technology across the Animation, VFX, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) sectors.

Among the major highlights this year was OTT Pulse 2025, a one-day conclave that brought together top voices from India’s OTT and entertainment industry to discuss the future of regional storytelling in the digital age.

The session `South Stories, Global Strokes: The Future of Regional Originals featured Padma Kasturirangan, Head of South, India Originals at Amazon Prime Video, who shared insights on how South Indian storytelling is shaping the future of streaming entertainment.

She also spoke about Prime Video’s focus on creating authentic stories that reflect the cultural richness of Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. Under her leadership, Prime Video has delivered several successful regional originals such as Suzhal: The Vortex, Inspector Rishi, Dhootha, and Poacher, which have received wide praise for their creativity and storytelling quality.

Padma Kasturirangan, Head of South India Originals at Amazon Prime Video, said: “We’ve always believed that great stories can come from anywhere and resonate everywhere. The phenomenal rise of South Indian storytelling has reaffirmed this belief - proving that when stories are told with authenticity and rooted in local culture, they can move audiences across languages and borders. Over the past few years, we’ve seen creators from the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam industries push creative boundaries, blending local emotion with universal themes. This has not only elevated regional storytelling but also redefined what ‘mainstream’ truly means in India. At Prime Video, our focus remains on empowering these voices, nurturing fresh talent, and building stories that travel, because the future of entertainment is inherently diverse, inclusive, and borderless.”

The session also explored how streaming platforms are empowering regional creators to experiment with new genres, collaborate with global talent, and reach wider audiences. It emphasized the growing importance of regional storytelling in shaping India’s creative economy and its recognition on the global stage.

The 2025 edition of OTT Pulse brought together OTT leaders, filmmakers, writers, students, and media professionals, creating a vibrant space filled with ideas, collaboration, and inspiration. As the event came to a close, one message stood out - OTT Pulse 2025 at IndiaJoy was not just a discussion but a celebration of India’s regional stories and their growing global impact.
