Bobby Simha

Hyderabad: Bobby Simha, one of the most talented actors from the south, needs no introduction. He started his career in 2007 with ‘Maya Kannadi’ in which he played a small role. He then bagged a couple of roles. He started playing critically- acclaimed roles in 2013 and but it was ‘Jigarthanda’ that gave him the much-needed break as an actor and took his career to new heights.

Bobby Simha received a National Award for “Best Supporting Actor” for his performance in ‘Jigarthanda.’ He later worked with Rajinikanth and Chiranjeevi, two of the top actors in the country, and is now one of the most successful actors down south. Here is an exclusive interview with the actor:

Hi, glad to have you here today. You have been in the industry for close to 13 years now. How satisfied are you as an actor?

As an actor, it is not really that long since I came into the industry and made a name for myself. Initially, all I did were short films. I got an opportunity in films like ‘Pizza.’ Since then, I have done many films in Tamil and am currently doing films in Telugu as well. So, I still have a lot to achieve as an actor. How about being satisfied now?

‘Jigarthanda’ earned you a National Award and it was a game-changer in your career. Tell us how important the film is to you?

‘Jigarthanda’ is one of the first best roles of my career. I never really expected the film to fetch me any awards. Who appreciates playing the role of a tough man and a goon? But my performance came out so well that many people, as well as the audience, appreciated me. ‘Jigarthanda’ turned my career around. I am always indebted to Karthik Subbaraju, who believed in me and thought that only I could do the role. Even now, everyone who talks about my films starts with ‘Jigarthanda.’

Is there any role that you would love to do in the future? Something like your favourite?

Of course. So far, I have not done a mythological film. I have always wanted to do a suitable role in a good mythological film. So far, I have not received any such offers. Even before that, I would be very happy if someone could write such characters for me as I said now.

As an actor, what was the best moment of your life?

While shooting for ‘Jigarthanda,’ a scene was okayed for the first time. We did not have to retake it. But I was not sure if it was up to the mark. I asked Karthik if I could do it twice or thrice and he said, ‘No need. I told you it has come out well.’ That’s the best moment.

Do your kids know their dad is a celebrity?

My son is a toddler. So, he doesn’t know much. But my daughter has asked about this many times. Every time we go out someone comes to take a picture with me. Then she asks my wife why and how many people come to take pictures with her father. Who is my father? But seeing how many people are coming to take a picture with me, the other day she was playing with a toy and asked the toy ‘Will you take a picture with my father? Do you want a selfie?’ That made me very happy.

You have worked with stars like Rajinikanth and Chiranjeevi. What’s next in your career?

I am glad I got a chance to work with such amazing people. But there is a long way to go yet and I am focusing on it right now. I have a few films lined up and I am going through some interesting scripts as well.
