Interview: Mrunal Thakur opens up about her role in Sita Ramam

Hyderabad: Actress Mrunal Thakur became popular for her role in the daily soap 'Kumkumbhagya'. She was recently seen in 'Jersey' which is the Hindi remake of the Telugu National Award-winning film of the same name. Though the film failed at the box office, Mrunal's performance won people's hearts.

Mrunal is now making her debut in Tollywood with 'Sita Ramam' which stars Dulquer Salmaan and Rashmika Mandanna. Here she is discussing the film and her role:

Can you tell us a little about the character Sita?

Mrunal Thakur: Sita's character is full of love. She is very smart, bubbly, and full of life too. It is known that Sita is the life of Rama. I feel fortunate to have played the role of Sita in 'Sita Ramam'. Every actress dreams of playing the role of Sita. I consider this film and the role my birthday present.

What is special about 'Sita Ramam' and why should people watch it?

Mrunal: Stories like 'Sita Ramam' are rare. Bonds, affections, relationships, and emotions of those days are shown in a beautiful way. Today's generation needs to know the importance of all those aspects that play a key role in any relationship. It also has comedy. Actors like Rashmika, Sumanth, and Tarun Bhaskar have performed amazingly well. Vishal Chandrasekhar's music is the highlight of the movie. It has all elements of war and mystery. It is an out-and-out entertainer.

How was it working with Rashmika Mandanna?

Mrunal: Her energy levels are always high. One day Mumbai, another day Chennai, she moves around different cities and countries with ease. She was very smart on the set. She takes excellent care of everyone. My scenes with Rashmika are some of the few beautiful ones in the movie.

Was it challenging while shooting in cold places?

Mrunal: We had to shoot in places like Russia, Kashmir, and Switzerland in minus degree temperatures. Dulquer and the director were running while shooting. I was too. There's a song we shot there and I could do it even in the cold. As an actress, it is important that we do our job irrespective of the challenges.

How did the director choose you for the role of Sita?

Mrunal: I was in Chandigarh when 'Jersey' Hindi remake was being shot. Hanu garu called me and said he wanted to meet. So, we met in a coffee shop in Mumbai. After that, I heard the full story in the office. He immediately roped me in for the film after seeing my excitement.

Have you watched 'Mahanati'?

Mrunal: My first movie was 'Love Sonia'. That film went to the Melbourne film festival and that's when I met Nag Ashwin. He came there for the screening of 'Mahanati'. I told him how much I loved the film and that it would be great if I got a chance to work with them. Keerthy Suresh acted brilliantly in it. That's how I became part of Vyjayanthi Films with Nag's introduction.
