The film is directed by TJ Gnanavel. It was known that this film is the official entry to the Oscars from India and that it had got selected for the set of the last 276 films for the Best Film Category.

Hopes were quite high on this film and everyone believed that it had all the scope to make it to the trophy. But unfortunately, it is out of the Oscar race now and this news became such a disappointment to every Indian out there. Well, there are a few who are celebrating the fact that it is the only movie that made it to the Oscar YouTube Library. They are proud that a Tamil film got recognition across the world.

Fans wrote:

"This is sooo unfair. Year after year. #sooraraipottru and now #JaiBhim. Remember guys, it took the legend Leonardo DiCaprio 25 odd years to win an Oscar. If anyone can bring us an Oscar it's #Suriya. Credits to the entire team. Waiting for #ET." (sic)

Even though #JaiBhim didn't make it into the final #OscarNoms list, Very Happy that the movie has been appreciated & lauded by everyone till now. The effort & Hope made my #JaiBhim Team is Amazing & Commendable @Suriya_offl "CONTENT IS THE KING #EtharkkumThunindhavan #VaadiVaasal." (sic)

Priyadarshan's Malayalam war film 'Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham', failed to make it to the list of nominations for the 94th Academy Awards that was announced on Tuesday.
