Hyderabad: Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar passed away on Friday after suffering a massive cardiac arrest. The actor was reportedly in a gym, working out, when he complained of chest pain and collapsed.

He was admitted to Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S. Bommai was at the hospital to check on the 46-year-old actor. Sources said Puneeth's elder brother Shiva Rajkumar and actor Yash were also at the hospital.

Puneet was busy promoting the release of his brother's film 'Bhajarangi 2'. Just this morning, the actor, in a tweet, had wished the film luck. The news of his death has come as a shock to his fans and the entire South Indian film industry.

The Kannada actor has been active in the film industry for more than two decades and is popularly called 'Power Star'. The news of his demise has saddened his fans and there's a state of shock among the film community. Film stars from all industries have shared their condolences on social media.

Puneet was last seen in 'Yuvarathnaa' directed by Santhosh Ananddram. He had recently wrapped the shooting for Chethan Kumar's 'James' alongside Priya Anand.
