Hyderabad: Actor Vishnu Manchu has been elected president of the Movie Artists Association (MAA). He defeated veteran actor Prakash Raj by 111 votes. Vishnu received 381 votes, while his opponent got 270 votes. Raj was supported by Chiranjeevi

Veteran actor Manchu Mohan Babu, the father of Manchu Vishnu, played a key role in the victory of his son. He campaigned hard for Vishnu and threw his entire might behind him.

Vishnu camp also won four other posts. Y. Raghu Babu was elected general secretary and Madala Ravi was elected vice-president. Gautam Raju was elected joint secretary and M Siva Balaji was elected treasurer.

Srikanth of the Prakash Raj group defeated Babu Mohan to become executive vice-president. Other winners of the Prakash Raj panel include Banerjee as second vice-president and Uttej as joint secretary.

Vishnu Manchu's campaign centered on local versus outsider. He projected himself as a 'son of the soil' to blunt the tool of Prakash Raj, who hails from Karnataka. He was successful in projecting Raj as an 'outsider'. He also alleged that Raj was non-accessible and often at the 'center of controversies.'

During six-week intense campaigning, both groups exchanged serious charges. As many as 665 out of 883 eligible voters participated in the voting.

The polling was held at school premises in Jubilee Hills. Of the 665 votes, 60 votes were cast through postal ballots.

Fans had gathered in large numbers outside the polling booth to take selfies with actors. Members of rival groups entered into a scuffle after Prakash Raj's supporters canvassed inside the polling center.

Several celebrities including Chiranjeevi, Bala Krishna, Nagarjuna, Pawan Kalyan, Jaya Pradha, Ram Charan, Raja Sekhar, Genelia, Poonam Kaur, Ali, Babu Mohan, Manchu Vishnu, Manchu Lakshmi, Roja, Nitya Menen, Vadde Naveen, Naresh among others cast their votes
