Hyderabad: Jeo Baby’s much-anticipated film ‘Kaathal - The Core’, starring Mammootty and Jyothika, faces a stumbling block ahead of its scheduled release on November 23. Reports indicate that the movie has been banned in Qatar and Kuwait, purportedly due to its content.

Rumours are circulating that the portrayal of a homosexual character by Mammootty might be the cause of the ban, drawing parallels with the situation faced by Mohanlal’s ‘Monster’ in 2022. Notably, Bahrain lifted the ban on ‘Monster’ after editing out 13 minutes of LGBTQ content.

The future of Kaathal - The Core remains uncertain, pending a potential re-evaluation by the Gulf censor board. Edits may be necessary for the ban to be lifted. A leaked synopsis from the International Film Festival of India reveals Mammootty’s role as George Devassy, a retired cooperative bank official grappling with political challenges stemming from his sexual orientation. The film explores the intricacies of George’s life as he decides to run for panchayat elections, navigating marital issues with his wife, Omana (Jyothika).

Apart from the lead actors, the film includes Lalu Alex, Muthumani, and Chinnu Chandini. Salu K Thomas oversees the cinematography, with Mammootty producing under Mammootty Kampany, and Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulsen Scaria contributing as writers.
