Andhra Dy CM Pawan Kalyan earns rare global honor; inducted into Japanese swordsmanship art
Amaravati: Tollywood actor and Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister K Pawan Kalyan has earned a rare global honor after he was formally inducted into Kenjutsu, the ancient art of Japanese swordsmanship.
It marks Pawan Kalyan's more than three decades of rigorous training, research, and unwavering commitment to martial arts.
Recognition of a long martial art journey
According to an official release, the induction acknowledges Pawan Kalyan’s sustained engagement with martial arts over 30 years, combining disciplined physical training with scholarly research into traditional combat systems. The honour is considered exceptional for a public figure outside Japan.
Foundations laid before Cinema and Politics
Pawan Kalyan’s association with martial arts began well before he entered into films and public life. During his early years in Chennai, he underwent intensive training in karate and allied disciplines, developing both technical skill and a strong philosophical grounding in martial traditions.
Deep engagement with Samurai traditions
Over time, his interest evolved beyond practice into a serious study of Japanese Samurai martial systems. He pursued classical traditions with rare dedication, focusing on authenticity, lineage, and the ethical values embedded in Japanese martial philosophy.
Fifth Dan from a respected Japanese Body
In recognition of his commitment, Pawan Kalyan was conferred the Fifth Dan (5th Dan) by Sogo Budo Kanri Kai, one of the most respected organisations governing traditional Japanese martial arts worldwide.
Rare induction into Samurai Lineage
He also became the first Telugu-speaking individual to be inducted into the Takeda Shingen Clan outside Japan, under the lineage of Soke Muramatsu—an honour seldom extended to non-Japanese practitioners.
‘Tiger of Martial Arts’ Title
Adding to his international accolades, the Golden Dragons organisation honoured Pawan Kalyan with the distinguished title ‘Tiger of Martial Arts’, recognising his sustained excellence and influence in the field.
Advanced Training with Indian Budo Expert
As part of his advanced martial education, Pawan Kalyan trained under renowned Budo authority Dr Siddiq Mahmoodi, one of India’s foremost exponents of Japanese martial arts.
Under his mentorship, he underwent comprehensive instruction in Kendo, achieving high technical proficiency along with deeper philosophical insight.
Bridging public life and Martial Philosophy
The official release also noted that the milestone firmly establishes Pawan Kalyan as one of the few Indian public figures to seamlessly bridge cinema, classical martial arts, and martial philosophy on an international stage, underscoring the global stature of his achievement.
